With the increase of economic activities and growing farm industry in the province of La Union, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently completed the construction of a 204-meter road project that will reduce half of the usual travel time between the two (2) Barangays of Apatut and Nagsabaran in the town of Balaoan.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Roger Mercado, Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan said that the road project will alleviate logistical problems and ensure safer and faster delivery of farm produce in the agri-rich town

Secretary Mercado said that other than the agricultural and economic benefits, the road also offers ease of travel and comfort to residents, tourists, employees, drivers, and other daily road users.

“Residents in the area as well as the neighboring barangays can now conveniently access social and healthcare services, making activities of daily living and regular trips to the doctor much more easier, especially for children and vulnerable persons,” added Secretary Mercado.

Funded under the 2021 General Appropriations Act in the amount of P5-million, the road project will help lessen transport costs by reducing travel time from 22 minutes to only 10 minutes coming from the barangays of Apatut and Nagsabaran to the town proper of Balaoan, resulting to higher income for both farmers and small and mid-size enterprise owners.
