The 11-kilometer distance between Ormoc City’s San Juan and Naungan Village will soon be shortened to only 4 kilometers as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is now almost halfway into completing the Ormoc City Diversion Road Project.
In his report to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, DPWH Region 8 Director Nerie Bueno said that the multi-year project is almost halfway at 42 percent completion rate and is targeted to be finished by the year 2023.
Ormoc City Diversion Road Project involves the construction of a 6-lane road, construction of drainages, slope protection, as well as four (4) bridge components.
Once completed, it will be vital in decongesting traffic along main roads of Ormoc City specifically the Merida-Isabel-Palompon Route.
“Diversion roads not only provide alternate routes to alleviate traffic in highly congested areas but also are perceived to positively affect the economic status of under-developed communities that will be traversed by these infrastructure,” added Secretary Villar.
