DPWH Employs Coconet Bio-Engineering in Infra Projects

The Department of Public Works and Highways, Iloilo First District Engineering Office, in convergence with the West Visayas State University-University Extension Program, is now using the Coconet Bio-engineering products in some of the infrastructure projects.

Currently, Coconet is being used by DPWH, in compliance with Department Order No 6, series of 2012, or the DPWH Standard Generic Specification for Coconet Bio-Engineering Solutions.

According to District Engineer Cecil C. Caligan, their office is presently employing coconet in three projects such as: Guimbal-Igbaras-Tubungan-Leon Road in the municipality of Tubungan; Rehabilitation of Slope Protection along Guimbal-Tubungan Road, also in the town of Tubungan; Construction of Coastal Protection along Tiolas-Sinugbuhan Road in San Joaquin, Iloilo; Repair/rehabilitation of Iloilo-Antique Road; and Construction of Slope Protection along Batiano River in Oton, Iloilo.

Coco geo-textile net, commonly known as Coconet, is made by weaving out fibers of deteriorated coconut husks which as normally considered as agricultural wastes.
