Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar announced that the Sindangan- Bayog-Lakewood Road linking Zamboanga del Sur to Zamboanga del Norte is now almost complete as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has substantially completed 36-kilometers of the road network.
Secretary Villar said that DPWH Region 9, under the leadership of Regional Director Cayamombao Dia, is currently completing the additional 15-kilometer portion of the road traversing multiple municipalities in Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga del Norte.
The road network will connect Dipolog-Sindangan-Liloy Road in Zamboanga del Norte to Jct. Tubod-Lakewood Road in Zamboanga del Sur, reducing travel time between the two (2) provinces from six (6) hours to just two (2) hours.
“With this new road, local and tourists will have a better access to services and discover the hidden wonders of Zamboanga Peninsula,” reported Director Dia.
Another DPWH on-going project that is expected to boost economic and tourism activities in Zamboanga del Sur is the 26.68-kilometer paving of national road leading to Nancy Falls in Zamboanga City.
A total of P1.1-billion was allotted for the improvement of the road leading to the tourism site from the junction of the national Highway to Ayala – La Paz Road in Barangay La Paz which is now 80.77 percent complete.
“We are fast-tracking the completion of these projects to provide better connections for the people of Zamboanga del Sur and promote tourism in the region,” said Sec. Villar.
