Widening of Iloilo-Antique Road in Full Swing

The ongoing widening of various sections along Iloilo-Antique Road is now in full swing, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways, Iloilo First District Engineering Office.

District Engineer Cecil C. Caligan said that DPWH is currently hastening the widening works along Oton-Tigbauan-Guimbal section, taking advantage of the good weather condition.

Said road section has the length of 4.787 kilometers which stretches from the town of Oton going southbound to the town of Guimbal, passing the town of Tigbauan.

The project has an allocation of P125.0 Million funded under FY 2015 General Appropriations Act of DPWH, Iloilo First District Engineering Office and implemented under contract with IBC International Builders, Corporation with the contract cost of P114.500 Million, thus, leaving a savings of approximately P11.500 Million.

The project involves widening of the both sides of the road, each side measuring up to 10 meters from the center.

It also involves removal of obstruction such as existing curbs and gutter, sidewalk perimeter, fence and buildings.

The project further includes concreting of additional lane with the length of 3.05 meters and shoulders with the length of 1.50 meters.

Also included in the project are curbs and gutter and drainage structure wherein the top cover will be utilized as sidewalks.

DE Caligan also said that DPWH is also implementing the widening project along Miagao-San Joaquin section of the Iloilo-Antique Road,

Said project, with the length of 2.491 kilometers, has an appropriation of P75.0 Million and being undertaken by IBC International Builders, Corporation in the amount of P68.599 Million.

The scope of work of said section is similar to other sections of the Iloilo-Antique Road.

Both sections of the project are implemented by the Regional Office under the management of OIC -Regional Director Wenceslao M. Leaño, Jr. and supervised by Iloilo First District Engineering Office.

Iloilo-Antique Road serves as a major thoroughfare from Iloilo City to the province of Antique, vice versa. It also provides access from Iloilo City going to Boracay Island in Aklan province, via Antique.

Once completed, travel from Iloilo City to Antique province would be a lot faster and more convenient, thus, transportation of goods and services from both provinces would more accessible.
