The tourism industry and agricultural productivity in Capiz are seen to improve with the construction of a new bridge in the province.

The 40-lineal meter Bayuyan Bridge was built by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to link several agri-tourism sites in President Roxas, Capiz. This will provide better access to people who wish to visit the province’s tourist destinations including the Hinulugan Falls in Pilar and Lintiknon Falls in President Roxas.

Constructed at a cost of P22 million, the 4-meter wide pre-stressed concrete girder type bridge, funded under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program-Agrarian Reform Infrastructure Support Project, Phase III (CARP-ARISP III) of the Department of Agrarian Reform, aims to benefit agrarian reform communities in the area.

According to DPWH Capiz 1st District Engineer Sanny Boy Oropel, local residents can now transport their corn and sugarcane products easily and faster with the completion of Bayuyan Bridge.

Oropel added that the project is part of the constructed 2,746.48 lineal meters of road network in the barangays of Sto. Niño and Carmencita in Pres. Roxas, which provides access to identified industrial and tourism centers in the province.

With the completion of the road network, DPWH also expects to see urban development and higher market value of lands in the province.

The Department saved P3 million from the project as the approved budget for the contract was P25 million.

Other bridge projects completed by the DPWH in Capiz include the construction of Mianay Bridge along Iloilo-Capiz Road and the rehabilitation of Altavas Bridge along Sigma-Mambusao-Jamindan Road.
