The Department of Public Works and Highways, Aklan District Engineering Office (DEO) announced, in a report by District Engineer Noel L. Fuentebella, the installation of traffic lights along Mabini Street, corner Roxas Avenue in Kalibo, Aklan.
With contract cost of approximately P9.58 Million, the Street is funded under the FY 2016 DPWH Regular Infrastructure Program of the District.
Started in July 26 this year, the said project is expected to be completed and operational on November 23, few days before the holiday rush, wherein volume of motorists are expected to flock the major areas of the province.
The project involves provision of traffic signal lantern (LED-type with visor), traffic control signal cables, local controller, vehicle-presence video detector, street light posts, road signs, reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings, pedestrian push-and-button assembly, high-mast signal poles, arrow masks and mounting brackets.
It will be turned-over to the local government after the completion and installation by DPWH Aklan DEO.
Kalibo Mayor William Lachica added that the traffic lights will minimize traffic congestion along the busy streets of Mabini and Roxas Avenue intersection, which is a major gateway of vehicles bound for Caticlan in Malay, Aklan, going to Boracay Island.
DPWH Aklan DEO has also provided/installed traffic lights in the town of Altavas, the first traffic light project implemented by DPWH in the province.
District Engineer Fuentebella said that series of consultations with local officials and stakeholders of Altavas were conducted by DPWH on the operational functionality of the said traffic lights.
