Residents in the northern part of Iloilo province as well as neighboring provinces of Aklan and Capiz will have a better medical facility with the proposed construction of additional building at the Iloilo Provincial Hospital.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office will be undertaking the construction of a 2-Storey building within the premises of Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan, Iloilo.

The project involves the construction of wards for indigent patients and other services as tertiary facility of the provincial hospital.

District Engineer Nilo B. Gavia also said that the project includes demolition of the old 1-Storey structure and construction of a new 2-Storey building with the area of 21.79 meters in length and 45.80 meters in width.

“The X-Ray room, laboratory and ultrasound room will be constructed at the ground floor, while the second floor will be utilized as wards,” Gavia said.

Assistant District Engineer Edna May D. Cañete added that the project has an appropriation of P30.0 Million, with the budget coming from the FY 2015 Department of Health (DOH) Health Facilities Enhancement Program (HFEP) Fund.

Cañete also said the project is set for public bidding and the construction will commence as soon as necessary documents are complied by the winning contractor.

“The second floor, which is intended for hospital wards, could accommodate at least 46 patients,” Cañete added.

Once completed, the said hospital building would be able to cater more patients particularly those who are from the northern and central towns of Iloilo and would provide them with easy access to medical attention, without going to the hospitals in Iloilo City.
