The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is fast-tracking the P74-million road widening project in Vito Port Road, Brgy. Andres Bonifacio, Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
According to DPWH Negros Occidental 1st District Engineer Jaime SJ Javellana, the 2.42-kilometer road widening project, which started in April this year, is expected to be completed in February 2019.
The road project involves concreting of road, 280-mm thick, including provision of slope protection, drainage and pavement markings that encompass upsizing of Reinforced Concrete Pipe Culvert (RCPC), provision of lined canals and more inlets for mitigation of flooding in the area.
An approximate of 400 residents of Brgy. Andres Bonifacio that faces day to day traffic problem will benefit from this project, leading to decrease in cases of road accidents for both pedestrians and vehicles.
Aside from addressing the existing traffic system, Vito port will serve as access to nearby islands in the province like Carbin Reef, Molocaboc Island, Suyac Island and Macahulom Island, which in turn will boost socio-economic and tourism of the province.
