The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is installing rainwater collector systems (RWCS) in schools, offices, and public places in an effort to address the water shortage in Iloilo.

According to DPWH-Region 6 Director Wenceslao M. Leaño, a total of P3.4 million was allocated for the construction of 17 RWCS in various offices and schools.

Three (3) RWCS will be constructed at the DPWH Regional Office while one (1) each will be placed at Brgy. Taft North and Jaro Big Market in the District of Jaro and Brgy. San Juan in Molo District.

Ten (10) schools in Iloilo City and its neighboring towns of Leganes and New Lucena receive one (1) RCWS each, except Iloilo Central Elementary School which will also have two (2).

Each rainwater collector amounts to P200,000 and is capable of storing 4,000 liters.

Installation of RWCS in establishments is part of the Department’s Climate Change Adaptation Strategy.

“The rainwater collector system connected to the roofs will enable the storage of rainwater for domestic use especially in populated areas which consume a higher volume of water everyday,” said Engineer Leaño.
