
A total of 600 various tree seedlings were planted by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office 6 at the Agony Hill in Sitio Taban, Barangay Manguining, Alimodian, Iloilo City.
In participation for the “Piyesta sa Kakahuyan 2018,” more than 100 personnel from different DPWH District Engineering Offices (DEOs) hiked a 1.5 kilometer distance to share their love for nature by planting various tree seeds like mahogany and narra.
Other participants include employees from other National Government Agencies (NGAs), Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), Local Government Units (LGUs), people from the academe and local media, and concerned stakeholders who completed a total of 10,000 trees plotted to rehabilitate Agony Hill, as it is considered as one of the tourist destinations in Central Iloilo.
The tree planting activity which is spearheaded by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) aims to support the government’s campaign against global warming, promote awareness in the importance and effects of trees on our environment and call for greener environment to protect Mother Nature.
