The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is currently paving a coastal road that is seen to enhance tourism industry and promote socio-economic activity in the town of San Jose, Antique province.
DPWH Region 6 Assistant Regional Director Jose Al V. Fruto said the 8-kilometer coastal road project which starts from Barangay Comon to Barangay San Pedro, San Jose de Buenavista and leads to San Jose Port is now ongoing, having received a total of P330 million from 2017 and 2018 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
The entire project costing P1.26 Billion involves the construction of a 2-lane road, including provisions of seawall/esplanade, sidewalks, curb and gutter, drainage structures, and other amenities.
Assistant Director Fruto said the coastal road will serve as an alternate route for all types of vehicles plying both south and north of Antique, reducing traffic congestion in the Provincial Capitol.
Aside from the impact on traffic, the coastal road is seen to provide local and international visitors with ease in traveling, hence further promote the province’s tourist attractions like beaches, springs, rivers, and natural park.
The new road will also provide residents the opportunity to engage in business and home-based livelihood activities with the increase in visitors in the province.
