
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Region VI joined the three-day celebration of World Water Day 2018 with the theme: “Water for Nature” organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in collaboration with different National Government Agencies (NGAs), schools and Local Government Units (LGUs) in Iloilo.
The activity kicked-off with a river walk held at Jayubo River in Lambunao Iloilo, followed by a river parade at Esplanade along Iloilo River to Batiano River, vice versa, on the second day.
The activity culminated with a forum on Environmental Issues on Water held at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol where speakers from DENR conducted a lecture-discussion on various topics such as the use of water, and the environmental issues advocating for the sustainable management of environment and freshwater resources.
According to the United Nation (UN), World Water Day campaign is an observance and an opportunity to learn more about water related issues, be inspired to educate others and take actions to make a change.
World Water Day celebration is about focusing attention on the importance of water and this year’s theme highlights how we can use nature to overcome the water challenges of the 21st century.
