DPWH projects seen to support tourism in Boracay

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is currently implementing two (2) major road projects that is seen to provide ease to travelers of the world famous Boracay Island in the province of Aklan.

DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar recently conducted an inspection of the ongoing projects which include the construction of an access road leading to Caticlan Airport and the rehabilitation of Boracay Circumferential Road.

According to DPWH Region 6 Director Wenceslao M. Leaño, DPWH is constructing the 2.75 kilometer new access road to Caticlan Airport costing P220 million. It is seen to support economic activity particularly in Nabas-Caticlan area, the gateway to Caticlan Airport.

Another project is the improvement of Boracay Circumferential Road with an allocation of P50 million involving the construction of a 2-lane, 6-meter wide road with curb and gutter, drainage, sidewalk and street lighting component. It will complete the missing gap of the circumferential road that will reduce congestion along main thoroughfare, reducing travel time from Jetty port to other areas of the island.

Director Leaño said the completion of the road projects is a priority of the Department in the Region, as the flock of tourists in Boracay Island has a huge impact in the tourism of the country.

“Monitoring of these projects is conducted regularly to ensure that implementation will go smoothly and it will be completed on time,” said Director Leaño.
