
More than 1, 600 violators of the Republic Act No. 8794 or the Anti-Truck Overloading Law were apprehended in Western Visayas for the year 2017, based on the report of the Maintenance Division of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6.
According to Engr. Oliver Zamora, 371 violators of the said law were apprehended in Dumarao weighbridge station in Capiz, while 1,261 were apprehended by the Anti-Truck Overloading Mobile Enforcement (ATOME), which is composed of personnel from the DPWH, Land Transportation Office (LTO) and Philippine National Police (PNP).
Zamora added that Region 6 ATOME reactivated the anti-truck overloading operation for Negros Occidental in the later part of 2017, after the dissolution of the Negros Island Region.
In addition, Engr. Jean Garin, head of DPWH-6 weighbridge operation, said that the LTO was responsible for the imposition of penalties to the violators, while the PNP for the security and safety of the enforcement team.
Meantime, for the month of January this year, the team has already apprehended a total of 128 violators in Panay area, 24 of which are apprehended in the weighbridge station while 104 violators were caught by the mobile team.
