The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) undertook a detailed inspection of the Bugho-Tublay Section of the Acop-Kapangan-Sibunga Road in Benguet using drone technology.

The demonstration of slope protection investigation and survey using drone, conducted in partnership with the Japan International Cooperating Agency (JICA), was attended by various DPWH representatives from Central office led by Bureau of Construction Assistant Director Aristarco M. Doroy and Regional offices including Regional Director Nerie S. Bueno, Assistant Director Khadaffy Tanggol and the District Engineers of Cordillera Administrative Region.

Inspection using drone technology on various infrastructure projects of the DPWH is one of the activities under the “Improvement on Quality Management for Highway and Bridge Construction and Maintenance, Phase III” of the JICA Technical Cooperation Projects (TCP) III.

A preview of the JICA TCP III was given by JICA Team Leader Hideo Nagao.

According Assistant Director and JICA-TCP III Project Manager Doroy, the data gathered through drone will be analyzed to determine the condition and stability of an existing road slope.

The use of drone technology with minimal traffic inconvenience can reduce inspection time, provide high resolution geo-tagged photos and videos, and produce 3D model for engineering analysis.

JICA-TCP III tapped SRDP Consulting Inc., the country’s first ever licensed drone operator, in maneuvering the rotary wing drone atop a road slope to demonstrate its capabilities and features
