Agaton incurs 322-M infra damage in Western Visayas

An estimated amount of ₱322 million worth of infrastructure projects in Western Visayas were damaged due to Typhoon Agaton.

According to Engr. Oliver E. Zamora, chief of the Maintenance Division of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office VI, most of the damaged infrastructure are in the provinces of Aklan, Capiz and Negros Occidental.

Agaton caused road slip along Aklan West Road in the towns of Nabas, Malay and Buruanga in the province of Aklan; and landslide in Nabas town, which totaled to an estimated restoration/rehabilitation cost of ₱53 million.

In Negros Occidental, Agaton caused road depression along Bacolod-Murcia-DS Benedicto-San Carlos City Road with an estimated repair cost of ₱1.050 million; damaged slope protection along Jct. DS Benedicto-Spur 16-Calatrava Road, with the estimated rehabilitation cost of ₱7.333 million; and cracked pavement along Bacolod North Road, with the estimated restoration cost of P1.034 million.

Various sections along Tapaz-Jamindan-Altavas Road in the province of Capiz were also damaged by road shoulder erosion and depression, as well as in various sections along Iloilo-Capiz Road (old route) and Sigma-Mambusao-Jamindan Road, amounting to an estimated rehabilitation cost of ₱260 million.

“The restoration/rehabilitation costs for these damages were estimated by the concerned District Engineering Offices and are subject for validation by the Central Office,” Zamora said.

“The rehabilitation of these damaged infrastructure will be undertaken once the validation is done and budget is available,” Zamora added
