Two river control projects have been completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) that will benefit residents of two (2) low-lying Barangays in Aklan Province.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar and Senior Undersecretary Rafael C. Yabut, in-charge of Visayas and Mindanao operations, District Engineer Noel L. Fuentebella of DPWH Aklan District Engineering Office said that the revetment wall projects were constructed along Aklan River in Barangay Bakhaw in Kalibo and in Barangay Linabuan in Banga costing P82.6 million and P31.7 million, respectively.

Engr. Fuentebella said that prior to the construction of these projects, Aklan River overflows and floods the residential areas during rainy season, damaging properties and livelihood.

“With these river control systems in place, at least 6,500 residents of Barangay Bakhaw and Linabuan are protected from river overflow,” added Engr. Fuentebella.

The river control project in Kalibo town includes construction of 480.97 meters revetment wall, 4.66 meters high on steel sheet piles with keywalls, four (4) units spur dike with cut-off wall and earthworks.

In the municipality of Banga, the project involves the construction of 253.80 meters revetment wall, 5.20 meters high on 6.0 meters steel sheet piles with spur dike and crest protection.
