A ceremonial “hand-over” of seedling was recently held at the Regional Office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 6 by the Department of Environment and Natural resources (DENR) 6 as part of the latter’s “Handog Hunol sang DENR” program.
DENR 6 Regional Executive Director Jim O. Sampulna personally hand-over the “Bugnay” seedling to the DPWH, represented by its Chief Administrative Officer, Atty. Conrado A. Agot, witnessed by the officials and employees of both national government agencies.
During the hand-over, Sampulna emphasized the significance of trees to the environment, highlighting its significance in the battle for climate change.
“We need to protect every single seedling because it could make a big difference in the world,” he stressed.
As its commitment and support, the DPWH headed by Regional Director Wenceslao M. Leaño, Jr. planted the said seedling within the office premises and instructed the employees to make sure that it is maintained.
The said activity is part of the month-long celebration of DENR for the month of June, which is declared as the Philippine Environment Month by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 237, series of 1998, promoting environment protection and sustainable development.
This year’s theme: “Connecting People to Nature” reminds everyone to amplify people’s environmental awareness and go through outdoors and into Mother Nature, to appreciate its beauty and importance to improve social practices to protect our Mother Earth.
The celebration also aims to add consciousness to the relationship of people with nature, underscoring the connectivity and dependency of human on nature in many ways.
