A newly completed flood control structure of the Department of Public Works and Highways is now providing protection against flooding to thousands of residents of Gattaran, Cagayan Province.
In a report to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, DPWH-Region 2 Director Melanio C. Briosos said that an amount of P73 million was allocated to complete the Gattaran Flood Control project that covers construction of 171 meters of rubble concrete revetment with a diameter of 0.60 meter and length of 8.80 bored piles and steel sheet piles supported by hexapods.
“With the completion of Gattaran flood control project, thousands of lives and properties will be saved against flooding brought about by strong rains.” RD Briosos added.
The revetment wall in Gattaran is only one of the projects being implemented to mitigate extensive flooding in Cagayan River Basin especially during the monsoon season.
