P200M Siargao Sports Complex gym, dorm ready for use

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of a sports complex gymnasium as well as a P50 million two-unit dormitory which can be used for major sporting events in the island town of Siargao.

The state-of-the-art gym constructed in the amount of P150 million features two rubberized courts for basketball, volleyball and badminton, fully air-conditioned with specially-designed ventilating system which will cater to more than 3,000 spectators.

The two-unit, two-storey multipurpose building on the other hand which will function as a dormitory for athletes during sporting events has an air-conditioning facility in each room with a single common toilet on every floor.

“These two major facilities were initiated by the local government to enable the island to host major sporting events like the Regional Meet. The hosting of significant sports competitions, will now be an addition to tourist attractions in Siargao along with the annual international surfing competition and international game fishing”, said DPWH Region 13 Director Pol M. Delos Santos.

The gymnasium and dorm are part of the 63,157-square meter Siargao Sports Complex in Barangay Osmeña, Dapa, Surigao Del Norte which also houses the oval and two grandstand/multipurpose buildings, and soon a convention center, a soccer field, a swimming pool, and a wide parking area.
