DPWH deploys equipment to declog Mindanao's Liguasan Marsh

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has dispatched two (2) new amphibious excavators (amphex) to dredge the silted and hyacinth-clogged Liguasan Marsh in Central Mindanao.

DPWH Region 12 OIC-Director Basir M. Ibrahim said Liguasan Marsh – a premier but critical wetland ecosystem along Rio Grande de Mindanao, second largest river in the Philippines, spanning the regions of Central Mindanao, the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), and Southern Mindanao - needs declogging as volume of water hyacinths are blocking waterways.

DPWH Supports the 14th Cerebral Palsy Awareness and Protection Week

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) hosted a meeting to map out activities for the observance of this year’s Cerebral Palsy Awareness and Protection (CPAP) Week on Sept. 16 to 22.

The meeting which was held on Sept. 5, 2017 at the DPWH Head Office, Port Area, Manila, was attended by the National Working Committee on CPAP Week composed of members from various sectors as well as participating DPWH employees.

DPWH to fast track site development of transitory shelters for Marawi evacuees

After inspecting evacuation centers for Marawi evacuees, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is now working on timely completion of site development works where the first batch of transitory houses for Marawi siege evacuees will be built.

“The area being developed by DPWH in Barangay Sagongsongan, Marawi City, can accommodate 1,100 families,” Secretary Mark Villar noted.

“Currently, we are preparing a portion of the site where the National Housing Authority (NHA) can build a total of 275 transitory houses,” said Secretary Villar.
