Behind
the subtle and calm presence of HADJI PUNDIDATO LAMPING MITMUG
is a dedicated public official who made significant
contributions to the infrastructure development in Mindanao. A
true-blooded Mindanaoan, he is a seasoned civil engineer with
more than thirty-four years of service.
He
started his career as a Civil Engineering Aide I at the Bureau
of Public Highways, Lanao del Sur in July 1970, shortly
after graduating from his Civil engineering course at
the Manuel L. Quezon University in Manila.
Even
during his early years in the government, Assistant Director Mitmug had
demonstrated the characteristics of a good leader.
Because of his exceptional abilities, he moved up the career
ladder at a remarkable pace.
He became Assistant
Highway District Engineer of Bongao, Tawi-Tawi in 1975 and was
later reassigned to Lanao del
Norte, where
he eventually became Highway District Engineer in 1980.
From
1986 to 1988 Assistant Director Mitmug served as District Engineer
in Jolo, Sulu and later in Sultan Kudarat. On May 20,
1996, he got appointed as Assistant Regional Director of DPWH
XII. He was
reassigned in Region XI on January 22, 2002 and later became
OIC-Regional Director from July 24 to November 6, 2007.
One
of his notable achievements during his early years in the
service was the construction of a bailey bridge connecting the
islands of Bongao and Sanga-Sanga Islands, Tawi-Tawi in 1974.
In the height of conflict with the Moro National
Liberation Front (MNLF), he was assistant project engineer of
the BPH team which undertook the construction of the bridge
that did not only link the two islands for the first time but
opened economic opportunities to the growing
population, as it greatly improved access to the
airport located in Sanga-Sanga.
Another
significant project he handled as District Engineer of Sultan
Kudarat was the upgrading and rehabilitation of the Bagumbayan-San
Vicente-Kulaman Roads in Sultan Kudarat from 1989 to 1994,
which linked the coastal municipalities of Lebak and
Kalamansig.
Through
the years he honed his leadership and professional skills
through study and
work. He
completed forty units in his Masters in Public Administration
course at the Mindanao State University, Sultan Kudarat
Extension from
1983-1985. He has
also attended various professional trainings and seminars such
as the Highway Bridge Design (1976); Road Engineering in Asia
and Australia (1978);
Road Safety and Engineering Management (1983); Seminar
Workshop on the New Highway Maintenance Management System
(1983); Advance in Civil Engineering Technology (1983);
Engineering for Rural Development
(1988); among others. Recently, he participated in the
Information Technology Training for Executives.
For him, the learning process never stops, even when
one has reached the top.
Assistant
Director Mitmug was born on 23 January, 1946 in Lumba-Bayabao, Lanao
del Sur. He is
married to Andang Dima-ampao Dimaporo, and is a doting father
to seven children namely;
Amron, Abdul Fattah, Jamellah,
Mohammad Faiz, Roqayah, Abdul Nassif, and Abdul Ghaffur.
