PRESIDENT AQUINO GROUNDBREAKS DPWH IX PROJECT

Top

In support of the government’s tourism infrastructure development program as mandated by R.A. 9583 and inclusive growth vision under the Philippine Development Plan (PDP), the Department of Public Works and Highways IX is implementing the Road Improvement and Upgrading from Junction Barangay Cogon to OISCA Park (Japanese Park) Barangay Cogon, Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte on April 18, 2013. The groundbreaking was led by no less than President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III together with DPWH Undersecretary Romeo S. Momo and Regional Director Jorge U. Sebastian,Jr. The improvement/upgrading from Junction Barangay Cogon to Oisca Park (Japanese Park) is a “Tourism Road Project” prioritized under the DOT-DPWH Convergence Program. The road traverses from a rolling to a mountainous terrain. It is an existing local road with a total length of 14.0 kms. The project involves the upgrading (gravel to concrete paved) of 14 kms with pavement width of 6.10 meter and thickness of 0.23 meters. The project with a total estimated cost of P335.00Million is seen to boost the tourism industry. This will surely result in the influx of tourist and investment opportunities thus generating employment. The project is also leading to another tourist potential spot, the beautiful Sungkilaw Falls. The P256Million balance needed to fully paved the remaining 11.113kms will be considered in the proposed DPWH FY 2014 and succeeding budget or will be sourced from any available funds. Also present during the affair is Secretary Mar Roxas of the Department of Interior and Local Government, Mayor Evelyn Uy of Dipolog City, barangay leaders and residents of cogon and the men and women of Department of Public Works and Highways IX.
