DPWH COMPLETES P914 MILLION JAPAN ASSISTED PROJECT IN SOUTHERN LEYTE

  Improving the existing road network to further develop economic activities in rural areas as well as attract foreign and local investments, the Department of Public Works and Highways reported the completion of Himayangan- Silago Road Project in Southern Leyte. DPWH Secretary Hermogenes E. Ebdane Jr. said that the completion of these P 914 Million road project would paveway for economic development not only in Southern Leyte but the entire Eastern Visayas Region. “ This project is part of the Arterial Road Links Development Project which aims to improve the existing road network in rural areas to improve the living condition and create a sustainable economic environment by investing in infrastructure facilities” Ebdane said. DPWH Philippine Japan Highway Loan (PJHL) Project Director Vicente Perez said that the project covers 68 kilometers of entire road network which is composed of the construction of 44.7 kilometers of Portland Concrete Cement Pavement, replacement of 17 bridges, rehabilitation of existing three bridges, improvement of drainage system and construction of slope protection works. The project starts from the junction of the Pan-Philippine Highway in Himayangan, Municipality of Liloan, towards north easterly direction passing through the Municipalities of St. Bernard, San Juan, Anahawan, Hinunduyan, Hinunungan and ends at Silago. “ This project would increase the development of tourism and agricultural industry in the area which will provide employment opportunities among the localities,” Perez said. This road rehabilitation project was jointly funded by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation and Government of the Philippines and was completed last October 11, 2007.

DPWH COMPLETES P 131 MILLION RURAL ROAD PROJECT IN SAMAR

  Promoting economic development by improving infrastructure facilities especially in rural areas, the Department of Public Works and Highways announced the completion of Dolores – Oras – San Policarpio Road in Eastern Samar Province. DPWH OIC-Secretary Manuel Bonoan said that this road project was included in the Department’s high impact project because it connects with the inter-provincial road network that connects two provinces in Samar Island. “ With the completion of this new project it will pave way to economic development as it provides employment opportunities in the area and serves as major access to tourists spots in Samar Island” Bonoan said. Implemented by the DPWH Rural Road Network Development Project Management Office, the project involves the construction of 5,740 lineal meters of Portland concrete cement pavement road. This P 131.9 Million road project was jointly funded by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation and the Government of the Philippines. “ The DPWH Central Office Quality Assurance Unit is now conducting testing and on-site inspection to assure quality of work before the road will be formally open to the public” Bonoan added.

DPWH COMPLETES P 1.01 BILLION ROAD PROJECT IN SOUTHERN LEYTE

  Residents and motorists in Southern Leyte will now be assured of continuous flow of traffic even during the rainy season as the Department of Public Works and Highways reported the completion of the Liloan – San Ricardo Road Section, Package 3 of the Arterial Road Links Development Project IV. DPWH OIC-Secretary Manuel Bonoan said that serving as a major alternate route for Maharlika Highway, especially when Mahaplag- Sogod Road Section, which is identified as disaster prone area, is closed during rainy season, the Liloan- San Ricardo Road Project would provide an all weather road network. Implemented by the Philippine Japan Highway Loan (PJHL) Project Management Office, Project Director Vicente Perez said that the project will also improve the socio-economic condition as it provides employment opportunities in Southern Leyte with more agricultural, industrial and tourism investments. Package 3 starts from the Municipality of Liloan and ends at the Brgy. Benit in San Ricardo and it involves the construction of 40.62 kilometers of Portland concrete cement pavement, 23 bridges, rehabilitation of an existing bridge , improvement/ upgrading of drainage shoulders and slope protection works. This P 1.01 Billion road and bridge project was jointly funded by the Japan Bank For International Cooperation and Government of the Philippines. “ We are continuously monitoring the implementation and immediate completion of all road and bridge projects nationwide in preparation for the coming La Niña season, I have already instructed all the project and regional directors to speed up all the programmed works to assure that the projects will be completed ahead of schedule” Bonoan said.
