MORE THAN JUST A ROAD

  Hail for the newest high- impact project of DPWH in Palawan 2nd District, a project that rationally reflected the sincere aspiration of our government in bringing the most efficient service for the people- the Concreting of Aramaywan- Berong- Puerto Princesa Road located in the Municipality of Quezon, South of Palawan. This concreting project significantly linked Quezon to the nearby towns of Rizal, Sofronio Española, Brooke’s Point, Narra directing to the City of Puerto Princesa offering a faster and more comfortable travel. Completed last April 25 this year, this road has just provided a wide array of opportunities that consequently opened a new field for improved socio– economic, tourism, and agricultural– industry in Quezon and nearby municipalities offering a more progressive community for the people. The newly completed project is now efficiently serving commuters particularly in transporting agricultural products. This aid undoubtedly speeds up communication, trade and travel which boost economic status of said communities. More to these attributes, this project is nonetheless a tangible accomplishment of DPWH aiming to be a dynamic and incessant partner of our government in giving efficient infrastructure closer to the people not to mention the location, religion, political or cultural affiliation; A genuine public service is a must. With the progressive possibilities the Aramaywan- Berong- Puerto Princesa Road has provided, the road project is more than just a kalsada or daan- it is nevertheless a realization of people’s hope that they can still improve their living and discover further development for the community.

THE ROAD TO PALAWAN'S H IDDEN PARADISE

  Road users will be enjoying longer smoother rides. From the existing 7.7 km paved road of Poblacion El Nido to New Ibajay, and aadditional of 1.62 km. Pave road will be accessible upon the completion of the road upgrading project in El Nido. This project is part and funded under DPWH 2011 Regular Infra Program which aims to upgrade the national road network of our country in order to sustain high economic growth that could be more globally competitive. Another road upgrading project which is also a road section towards El Nido is located in Jct. Paglaum Road, Taytay. These road upgrading projects will benefit the households of the locality and its nearby barangays. the main sources of livelihood in the locality are farming, fishing and tourism. Aside from accessibility of agriculture of agricultural/marine products and boosted tourism, added benefit that the businessman will derive from is the private airport owned by Ten Knots Devt. Corp. which is situated about 10 kms from El Nido-New Ibajay Road Section. El Nido is located at the Northern most part of Palawan. It is often referred to as the Palawan’s Hidden paradise because of its towering marble cliffs, white sand beaches and diverse marine life. It is considered as one of the top tourist destination in Palawan. Tourist arrival remarkably increased to 36,935 in 2010. Local and foreign tourist chose El Nido in conducting conferences and seminars. Recent event includes Annual Celebration of HIV Information Awareness Drive,. “Our Function Hall can only handle small group of delegation. What we really need is a Convention Center that can accommodate huge number of delegates” said Mayor Edna Gacot-Lim in addressing the town’s infra needs. Water Supply Systme is an other problem in El Nido considering the increase influx of tourist in the municipality. She also requested to construct Farm to Market Roads from Teneguiban to the Circumferential Road since there are lots of farmers in the area. Hopefully, with the continuous release of allocation intended for road infrastructure of allocation intended for road infrastructure projects towards El Nido tourist and other local commuters will soon enjoy the safe and convenient roadway towards the so called “Palawan’s Hidden Paradise.”

DPWH PUSHES ROAD IMPROVEMENT IN ROMBLON

  The Department of Public Works and Highways is addressing infrastructure inadequacy in the island of Romblon as a step in reducing poverty and pushing the Philippines growth. In his report to DPWH Secretary Rogelio L. Singson, DPWH Region 4-B Director Huillio B. Belleza said that they are presently undertaking the concreting of Guinhayaan-Malbog Port Road in Tablas Island, Romblon. The project, which involves concrete paving of about 693 meters at a cost of P15 Million is expected to be completed by August 16, 2011. The DPWH Romblon District Engineering Office, in line with “right project, right cost, right quality” management philosophy of the Department is undertaking strict supervision and monitoring of the project under contract with Algimar Construction. The Guinhayaan-Malbog Port Road project which is within the Tablas Circumferential Road is a combination of national and provincial roads leading to the port in the Municipality of Sta. Fe. Belleza said that the Municipality of Sta. Fe serves as the gateway to the tourism destination of Boracay Island via 30 minutes pump-boat and the improvement of the road network will also boost the tourism development of Romblon Province. In 2010, the DPWH implemented upgrading from gravel to concrete in rolling terrain of about 810 meter in the amount of P20 million which also includes construction of lined canal and slope protection works. Stakeholders that includes local officials and community residents traversed by the project are thankful to the national government under the administration of President Benigno S. Aquino III as the project not only will benefit growth of tourism but will facilitate better delivery of agricultural products to market centers. Provision for access to tourism destinations, airports, ports, and agricultural food production areas and economic zones are among the road development priorities of the DPWH.

MARINDUQUE OFFICE JOINS COASTAL AND RIVER CLEAN-UP ACTIVITY

  The Department of Public Works and Highways, Marinduque Engineering District Officials and Employees took their part in the observance of the 2011 World Water Day and the Philippine Water Week by conducting a coastal and river clean-up at Ihatub, Boac, Marinduque. Equipped with cleaning paraphernalia the activity started at 7:00 in the morning, Not mending the heat of the sun and the sea water the officials and employees happily finished their task of cleaning the river and the seashore specially dirt and garbage under the bridge. The participation of the official and employees implies that people by instinct are nature lovers and believe that natural resources such as rivers and beautiful beaches should be managed and protected.

DPWH IMPROVES MARCOPPER ROAD

  The Department of Public Works and Highways, Marinduque District Engineering Office cooperation with Sta. Cruz Engineering Department in the office of Sta. Cruz Mayor Percival C. Morales worked for the improvement of the unpaved Marcopper Road from Brgy. Peres to Kilo-kilo, Sta. Cruz, Marinduque. The reshaping and regraveling of the 13-kilometer MARCOPPER Road, which is a private road was funded by the local government of Sta. Cruz with the help of Congressman Lord Allan Jay Q. Velasco. The District office personnel continuously work for the immediate completion of the project for the benefit of the people in the 18 barangays of Sta. Cruz especially the students of Marcopper Elementary School who use the road everyday. Heavy equipment such as dump trucks and grader were posted at the site to do uninterrupted operation especially during continuous heavy rains.

DPWH DONATES OLD TIRES AND TOILET BOWLS TO TORRIJOS LGU

  The Department of Public Works and Highways-Marinduque District Engineering Office recently granted the request of the local government of Torrijos for the provision of old tires and toilet bowls for its environmental sanitation program. Torrijos Municipal Mayor Gil R. Briones extended his warmest gratitude to the district office under OIC-DE Tiburcio L. Canlas for the one hundred thirty-three (133) assorted used tires and three (3) toilet bowls to be used for the beautification project of the municipality. The old tires will be used for the protection of marine reserve through the maintenance of coral reefs in the 14 coastal barangays and the toilet bowls will be distributed to their constituents who have no access to sanitary toilet facilities. This is one of the municipality’s priority development projects supported by the department to address the poverty problems in the barangays. DPWH’s support was deeply appreciated by Mayor Briones and his constituents saying that their partnership with the DPWH is very important in protecting the environment thru beautification and environmental sanitation programs.

BENEFICIARIES NOW ENJOY THE NEW MARINDQUE CIRCUMFERENTIAL ROAD

  The DPWH Marinduque District Engineering Office (DEO) has reported the overwhelming response of the public on the newly-opened Marinduque Circumferential Road. OIC DE Tiburcio L. Canlas said that the district office receive numerous commendation from people who benefitted P36,614,968.18 project. Dr. Romulo H. Malvar, President of Mariduque State College commented through Facebook that the road improvement project is most beneficial to MSC students, faculties, and personnel by providing additional convenience in their everyday transactions and safety in travelling. The Rehabilitation/Reconstruction/Upgrading of Marinduque Circumferential Road (Buyabod- Matalaba-Tawiran Section) under contract with RTY Construction was completed on November 18, 2010. The project was strictly monitored and that no irregularity or malpractice was tolerated. Its implementation was jointly inspected by the PICE-Marinduque chapter, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Members Hon. Melecio J. Go and Hon. Harold Y. Red, and Civil Engineering students from Marinduque State College, representatives from Municipality of Sta. Cruz together with the district office personnel led by DE Canlas and OIC Asst. DE Rodolfo S. David., and contractor RTY Construction. The group witnessed the sampling and testing of fine and coarse aggregates used. The inspection resolved the issue as to whether or not the aggregates came from approved source since the result showed that all the materials are of good quality good quality, passing all the quality test requirements under the DPWH Standard Specification for Highways and Bridges, 2004.
