The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is the Philippine government agency responsible for the planning, design, construction and maintenance of infrastructure system and facilities, especially national highways and bridges, major flood control and other water resources development system. As a way of committing to this mandate the Department has been providing a manuscript to serve as a guide to data users for the formulation of plans and programs for researchers in the government and the private sector. It presents updated information on the current infrastructure progress and environment of the country. The DPWH Atlas is updated every year to provide the users the most recent information particularly on National Road and Bridge types and conditions including traffic statistics that are continuously being updated by the Department to cope with the current developments in the infrastructure sector and monitor the situation of the transportation system of the country. Likewise, other information produced by other agencies is also included in the report for the users to have complete reference in the preparation of project studies and programs related to infrastructure. The 2012 Revised edition of the DPWH Atlas aims to provide comprehensive and abridged information on the road network including services and other related DPWH areas of concern. It is an invaluable reference that includes extensive figures and illustrations to facilitate easier understanding and quick orientation for the users. Data/information on roads and bridges are laid out in such a way as to provide the users a clear idea on the outline presented. Illustrations like maps, graphs, figures and tables were enhanced to easily identify and compare statistics. It also contains the 2007 Actual Based Population Projection, widely-used statistical information that can be utilized for the preparation of reports, studies, plans and programs for infrastructure development by concerned engineers, economists and students alike. Items which include Population, Economics, Climate and Social Infrastructure data are sourced from different private and government agencies and have been integrated with infrastructure statistics in order to come up with more reliable and relevant data that are necessary and usable in pursuit of the Department’s goals and objectives.
