FOREWORD

 

The Philippine national road network is in a continuous state of improvement as it plays an important role in the economic development of the country. The condition of national roads is often used as an index to assess the extent of the country’s progress.

Infrastructure, being one of the main drivers of our economy, requires statistical data in order to come up with measures to reduce the cost of transportation, both in terms of money and time, and also helps in the integration of various regions within the country and better understanding of neighboring countries at the international level.

Being aware of the significant application of infrastructure statistics, this Department, thru the Statistics Division, Planning Service with the participation of District Engineering Offices (DEOs) under the supervision of Regional Offices (ROs), has undertaken concerted effort to provide updated information on the current progress of national roads and bridges through the DPWH Atlas. Information contained in said Atlas is laid out in such a way as to provide users a clear idea on the infrastructure data being presented. Illustrations like maps, graphs, figures and tables were enhanced to easily identify and compare statistics.

 

The DPWH Atlas is updated every year to provide users with the most recent information particularly on National Roads and Bridges. Said information are condensed and laid out in matrices and through maps presented in Open Street and National Geographic World base maps for roads and bridges, respectively.

 

As one of the DPWH’s contributions in accelerating infrastructure development and management program in our country, this report presents road and bridge inventory data/information useful to planners, researchers, policy and decision-makers.

It is our ardent hope and desire that this work, modest as it may seem, will serve its purpose.
