Known for his tireless work ethic, professionalism and hands-on supervision, Engineer Dante Barzaga Potante’s solid, untainted and well-respected professional career has been tried and tested through his almost four decades of public service.
After placing Seventh in the 1975 Civil Engineer Licensure Examination, Engineer Potante joined the Department as a Civil Engineer at the then Department of Public Highways-Bureau of Barangay Roads in 1976 from his eleven (11) month job as casual Civil Engineering Aide I at the Manila City Engineer’s Office.
From then on, he climbed the ladder of success holding various engineering positions as Senior Civil Engineer, Supervising Civil Engineer, Head Civil Engineer, Project Manager and Assistant Project Director of different offices in the Department like the Bureau of Construction, Bureau of Design, Special Buildings Project Management Office including the National Building Code Development Office, Project Management Office – Rural Road Network Development Projects, and Central Procurement Office until his designation as OIC-Director, Bureau of Equipment and finally as Bureau Director in April 2014.
Aside from his successful career in the department, his passion and willingness to share his expertise to young students has also led him in the field of teaching. He became a College Instructor/Lecturer in numerous college institutions such as Technological Institute of the Philippines-College of Engineering (1976-1982), Polytechnic University of the Philippines-College of Business (1989), and Crescent Technologies Institute, Inc. (1991-1995), and MAPUA Institute of Technology- Graduate Studies (2004). To date, he is still a part-time instructor at MAPUA Institute of Technology focusing on Civil Engineering and Geological Engineering, and at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines – College of Engineering (1989-present).
To advance his knowledge and expertise, Director Potante has attended numerous trainings and seminars. These include the trainings on Practical Project Management in Public Investment Course conducted by the Asian Institute of Management in 2010; Creative Innovations and Reforms for Committed Leadership and Effectiveness, Gabay and Salamin-Diwa (SALDIWA) ng Paglilingkod Training Program conducted by the Career Executive Service Board; Contract Management and Administration; Organizational Culture Change Program for the DPWH conducted by the SAIDI Graduate School of Organizational Development; Project Planning Design Workshop for National Roads and Improvement Program conducted by World Bank, to name a few.

Director Potante’s academic track record speaks for his outstanding personal qualities. With his innate talent, intelligence and discipline, he graduated in Elementary and Secondary school levels as Salutatorian and Valedictorian, respectively. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree at the Technological Institute of the Philippines-Manila in 1975 under MONSOPONA Scholarship Foundation, Inc., Cavite, and his Master of Engineering (Major in Civil Engineering) in Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, U.S.A. in 1983.
He became a Career Executive Service Eligible in January 2001 and was conferred a Career Executive Officer Rank VI in September 2007 by the Civil Service Commission.
Engineer Potante was born on October 13, 1952 to David and Virginia Potante. He is married to a fellow public servant Director Nimfa Ediza- Potante. They are proud parents to their only child, Architect Dann.
