Teamwork – Bedrock of DPWH Success

Of  the  five core values under the Organizational Culture Building Program, Professionalism,  Integrity, Public Service,  Excellence,  and Teamwork, Teamwork is an important component for  the  DPWH  to  succeed  in accomplishing  its  mission – to  uplift  the life of every Filipino through infrastructure.

Teamwork was best exemplified when two (2) teams composed of the DPWH  Executives  and  DPWH Employees’  Union  officers   and   members competed with each other in some friendly basketball games.

During the first game, the DPWH Executives outscored the DPWH-EU.  Assistant Secretary Raul C. Asis made  a  remarkable defensive effort. Rico Baysa,  President  of DPWH-EU admitted  that  his  team  could not run the  DPWH  Executives  who used a wide-open  offense  piloted  by CFMS Director Aristeo Reyes.

The second game was a victory for the DPWH Employees Union posting a four-point lead.

The basketball match should have been a  three-game  tournament, however, with  both  teams  having   garnered  a win  each,  they  decided   to end the match.  That is the EXECOM’s way of saying that “DPWH officials should not  compete  with  the  rank-and-file, even in friendly  basketball games. If we work  together  as  a team, then, we should  also  play  together  as  a   team. In  all  we  do  in   the   DPWH,   it  should  always be done as a teamwork effort.”

The DPWH Executives Team was composed of  Assistant Secretary Asis, Directors Aristeo  Reyes,  Gilberto  Reyes, Virgilio  Arpafo, Melvin Navarro,  Patrick  Gatan,  Emmanuel  Cuntapay, Emerson Benitez, Camilo  Foronda,   Emil   Sadain,  Ernesto Gregorio Jr.,   Constante   Llanes,  and  Oliver  Rudolfo.

The  DPWH—EU Team  was  composed      of Rico Baysa, Ric Mobo, Augusto  Miranda,  Richard  Estanislao,  Danny Celisius,    Ruben     Roces,      Carmelino Tizon,   Rolando    Santelices,    Fernando    Chua, Caesar Cristobal, Mario Leabres, Unido Fabregas,  Lito Nuque and Luis Alcantara.   (Engr.
