Geographic
Information System (GIS)
Geographic Information System (GIS) provides a tool to assist in
analysis. It contains the entire national road network as well as
other valuable information from other agencies such as population
census, administrative boundaries, ports and airports, cities and
towns, ancestral domains, national integrated protection areas,
river systems, land use and weather stations. The use of GIS is
expanding within the Regions as the Wide Area Network (WAN)
expands. Regional Offices are able to connect to the data held in
Central Office to query the Department’s GIS data and to perform
their own map production.
